It's About Youth!

TNOYS maintains an active advocacy presence at the Capitol around the issues that are on our legislative agenda, as well as on other issues that impact at-risk youth as they arise throughout the legislative session.  Below are copies of some of the testimony we presented/submitted to the Legislature during the 81st Legislative Session.

Senate Health & Human Services Committee hearing on April 28, 2009

          TNOYS submitted testimony for SB 591, relating to a youth development program pilot.

House Public Education Committee hearing on April 28, 2009

         TNOYS testified for HB 1281, relating to an adult responsibility curriculum in schools. 

Senate Health & Human Services Committee hearing on April 14, 2009

         TNOYS testified for SB 1646, relating to the establishment of a Council on Children and Families. 

House Human Services Committee hearing on April 9, 2009

         TNOYS submitted testimony for HB 1912, relating to transition services for foster youth.

House Corrections Committee hearing on March 5, 2009

         TNOYS testified against consolidating TYC and TJPC into one juvenile justice agency. 

House Appropriations Committee, Health & Human Services S/C hearing on February 24, 2009

         TNOYS testified in support of increasing funding for the STAR and CYD programs.

         TNOYS testified in support of funding transition centers for foster youth.

Sunset Advisory Commission public meeting on December 15-16, 2008

           TNOYS submitted written commentary in opposition to consolidating TYC and TJPC.
